Rexburg Temple Open House

The newly built, soon to be dedicated, Rexburg, ID Temple.
This weekend we made our way up to Idaho to walk through the temple before it is dedicated next Sunday. My parents are excited to have a temple and it is very pretty and stands on the hill for all of Rexburg to see. It is a bigger version of a small temple and my Dad had knows most of the builders and had insights on the construction of the temple. It has a wheat theme which is incorporated into the carpet, railings, walls, etc-Cody thought it should be a potatoe theme :o) Kristin and Nate came to see the temple also and stayed with us Sat night. Another good weekend.

We all got dressed up for the concert, everyone looked great, then we went to dinner at the Gateway. It was a great night!

Tubing at Soldier Hollow

To enjoy the snow here in UT we always try to play in it, rather than just complain- So this weekend we went tubing! We are the Young Single Adult Fellowshipping Couple in our ward, and because of that calling we get to go to the fun activities! We just have to keep a close eye on eachother. We invited Chad and Allison to come with us and pretend to be single. We all went last year too, it is probably the most fun thing about our calling. Soldier Hollow has a great run, and a rope tow so there is no hiking involved. The boys were having too much fun waiting in line kicking eachothers tubes, Chad tripped once, and then at the top Cody kicked Chad's tube and it went sliding down the hill without him. Poor Chad! It was quite hilarious! But hanging out with all the YSA's made us all grateful to be married~

8 mile

This post is not about the movie- This was our run this week. We had to go 8 mi- and we made it! Even in the snow and the freezing cold weather! Since I haven't had much to write I took my camera to the park. We ran on the Provo River trail starting at Utah lake, there was fresh snow on the path and the river had ice along the banks.

Buster came with us. He had so much fun. In the last 2 miles he decided to go duck hunting in the river- and soon he had icicles all over him! He is a good running dog, we have taught him to heal without a leash which is handy. He also makes 8 miles quite fun as he slips and falls often. Good times!

Ice Cream Diet- Food for Thought

So.. since Cody and I have been running more we have started consuming ice cream on a daily basis. It is like a nightly ritual the last few weeks. I found this from one of my Chem classes when I was cleaning- You might have read it before- here goes:

As we well know, it takes 1 calorie to heat 1 gram of water 1 degree celcius (The Law of Thermodynamics). This means when you eat a very cold dessert (consisting largely of water), the natural process which raise the consumed dessert to body temp during the digestive cycle literally suck the calories out of the only available source: your body fat. For example, a dessert served and eaten at near 0 degrees C will in a short time be raised to the normal body temp of 37 deg C. For each gram of dessert eaten, that process takes approximately 37 calories as stated above. The average dessert portion is 6 oz, or 170 grams. Therefore, by operation of thermodynamic law, 6,290 calories (170g x 1 cal/g/deg x 37 deg) are extracted from body fat as the dessert's temperature is normalized. Generously allowing for 500 latent calories in the dessert, the net calorie loss is still approximately 5,800 calories. Frozen desserts like ice cream are even more beneficial, since it takes 80 cal/g to melt them- or raise the temp to 0 degrees Celcius and an additional 37 cal/g to further raise them to body temperature.
Obviously, the more ice cream you eat, the better off you are and the faster you will lose weight. The results are remarkable, and it beats running hands down. But thankfully, as the astute reader should have already reasoned, the obvious solution is to follow up pizza immediately with large bowls of ice cream~ Happy Eating!!

Can you find the flaw in my argument- the math is correct!

Pizza Pizza!

So after knowing Cody almost 4 years I learned he had a hidden talent- pizza dough tossing! I don't know where he learned it- he's never had a pizza job or nothing! The first time I tried throwing dough in the air it landed on the floor! We used my breakmaker to make pizza dough and my vitamix to make pizza sauce! We used a pizza stone and had our own brick oven pizza. Cody was so impressive throwing the dough in the air- it really was a large round crust- I couldn't quite capture the moment! It was the best pizza- but we decided it wasn't a 5 buck pizza- it took so long we wouldn't sell it for less than $50- We're taking orders! j/k

Friendly visit..

We finally got to see our bestest friends again- they took their new baby and moved away in August for medical school. He is so big and so cute now. They showed up at 11:45pm on Cody's birthday! It was a great birthday present! We celebrated New Years with them and then before they left we went to Los Hermanos and Subzero. The we played Friends Scene It game- which Cody and I won.. but we let them have a re-match. hehehe We had a great time, we always do!

My Intermountain Medical Center Experience

So I (Natalie) had the most exciting night! I was even at work!! Hard to believe I know... I wasn't working at Costco I was Job Shadowing my friend John who is an ICU pharmacist at the new hospital IHC in Murray, UT. It is amazing, probably one of the most hi-tech hospitals out there. It just opened in October and this was my first time going inside. So anyways, John is a good guy- he works at Costco on the side, but he works 7 days straight- 10 hour shifts then he gets 7 days off. He doesn't just fill prescriptions though- he is there in the ICU when patients arrive ordering drugs and interviewing family about the patients med history. It was intriguing to see him in action. Pharmacy has progressed over the years to where the pharmacist can change a patients meds in many cases without the doctor. We worked in the 15-story tower and the patients rooms have incredible mountain views. There is a cafeteria bigger than the Cougar-Eat at BYU with some really good food and tables outside for the summertime. The patients all have flat screen TV's and surround sound! I loved working with the patients, even the nurses (typically pharmacists and nurses don't get along- but everything was peaceful :o)) And although I have a history of fainting at the sight of blood and/or needles, the only thing that made me sick was the high speed elevator-we went from floor 4 to 11 back to 5 then 1...blah. I got to send drugs/orders to the central pharmacy in a bank tube, saw a guy naked and a few people who were close and even got to contribute my drug knowledge a time or two~ I now have new goals for my career and my life, and I am now considering a residency the year after I graduate!

Cody's 26th Birthday!

Having a birthday after Christmas would be a bummer for most people, but Cody loves it. His mom always did a good job of making it special, so I have a lot to live up too. We had a party on Sunday night to celebrate. Cody wanted cinnamon rolls, cake, ice cream, and apple beer. We got to see a lot of our friends and we had a good time. We even had some special visitors at the end of the night :o) Can't believe Cody is 26!
