Happily Ever After Girls Camp 2011

See camp pics below~ Lots of work leading up to camp. I wanted to remember how I made the crafts we made so I took pics periodically to make a small tutorial. The 2 main ones were fabric daybags and hollowed out books. We had to have PJ bottoms and we had enough extra fabric to make small backpacks. It looked so good with their matching PJs!!

Fabric Backpack.
Need 1/2" yd at the most fabric, We used scraps from PJ's.
3-3.5yd cording for each pack
safety pins
sewing machine
Fabric Backpack. Start by cutting a 17x12 square out of two piece of fabric. Cut a 2x2 square out of the bottom of each corner. Since I made 19 I made a pattern.

Start by finishing the top seam. Fold down 5/8" then 1". Iron this way, don't sew yet tho.

Before you finish the top you need to finish the ends so where the string comes out isn't a rough edge. Make a small cute measuring 5/8" from each side at the bottom of the folds.

Fold toward the middle of the bag and sew down the small edge on each side stopping when you get to the end.

Then sew the top edge to finish. Sew along the edge to make the seam big enough for the cording to go through.

We also hollowed out books. Cody and his Dad did most of ours, but we did a few on some late nights before camp. :)

After you get all the pages cut cover the uncut pages with saran wrap.

Mix elmers glue with a little H2O and glue all the pages together inside and out.

Once you finish the top seam sew the sides and bottom with a 5/8" seam allowence. I used a serger for a more durable backpack. Don't sew the 2x2 squares.

Cut your 9+ ft of cording in half.

Using a safety pin thread 1 piece through one side and back through the other.

Watch a good movie! If you do 19 it takes for ever.Haha can't find the rest of the pics- to be continued...

Girls camp was awesome. Happily Ever After was the theme of the Stake Camp. We used Jenny Phillips Happily ever after song and Elder Ukdorfs talk.
Our camp was Lion King. We used a safari theme and did Zebra Pj bottoms.

My favorite night was when the rain storm came. The girls wanted a fire so bad they were protecting the wood (the first night it took over an hour to start it with the wet wood) They started doing the huka (polynesian dance)and put charcoal on their faces. It was hilarious! When we all were forced under cover the girls started singing Lion King songs. Leaders from other wards asked me how we got the girls to get together like that and sing, it was pretty cool that they did it all on their own.

Beautiful sunsets. Love the views from up there.
Our only 1st yr Melissa- Her older sis was one of my laurels- We were buddys the whole week. This is one of our hikes.

Us all ontime for Golden Hour

Our Awesome YCL's leading the songs- Aubrie, Leslie, Kat, Jade, Kasi Amanda and Jordan.

Cute girls! Can you guess who the leaders are? I still think it is hard to pick us out. It was so fun to be able to be with the YW again!

The finished products- Books hollowed out with love letters from family and leaders inside. They loved them!

The "mail" camp to the safari everyday. They got personalized post cards and gifts.

The CV2 group on bishpric night. They all looked fabulous with the zebra pants/bags and camp shirts. We had great "Golden Hour" speakers and an awesome testimony mtg. I cried and cried knowing I was leaving these girls. :( They were all so great and I love them sooo much!!

I love the idea of the books! How fun for them to all have one. Camp is so great - doesn't it make you think back to all the years we were there? So much fun. But it's almost more fun as a leader :)
