Day 3- Nauvoo

We drove into Nauvoo after a 4 hour bus ride- the bus was very nice but it was great to be there. When you turn the corner to go up the hill into Nauvoo the temple is a magnificant sight to see. I like what Sister Black said about the Saints: They build thier houses up in the memory of Joseph (beautiful brick homes show their love for Joseph) and they built the temple to show their love for Heavenly Father. It is amazing how much dedication and faith they have!

This Sunstone was on the original temple and together with the stars and the moon represtent the 3 degrees of glory. There are originals in Nauvoo but this is a replica-

These are the ditches! The point- Nauvoo is a swamp! They built these ditches when the saints arrived. John Taylor left his wife by a ditch similar to this and left to go on a mission! Could you imagine?

This is the cemetary- The statue in the back is of a family buring a child. All funerals were held on Mondays and Thursdays and Joseph Smith would speak at all of them. During these talks he taught about the resoration of temple ordinance and the plan of salvation. Malaria killed more saints than any extermination order so the funerals were quite large. This is the location of King Follet's grave where Joseph gave his famous "King Follet discourse."

This is the Nauvoo House where Joseph and Emma lived and Emma later had a hotel. The RLDS owns this land.

This is the Mansion House, also owned by the RLDS- Also Cody's parents and Kyle who also came with us! We had so much fun with Sister Black.

To end off the night we went to "Sunset on the Mississippi" a show put on by the missionaries serving in Nauvoo similar to what the Saints would do back in the day. Did you all know that there are tons of couple missionaries, they have performing missionaries (girls/guys 18-25 that only go for the summer) and grandmas whose husbands are in heaven (Both my Grandmas..hint hint..). I think anyone who has time and/or talent should do this.
